Meet Lenora Chapman, OhioMFT Resident

Lenora Chapman, MA, MFT-T

Welcome! My name is Lenora Chapman. I am a native of Cleveland, OH and have been raised in Columbus, OH since the age of 11. I have an undergraduate degree in psychology earned at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, OH. In addition, I have a M.A. graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University Worldwide in Los Alamitos, CA.

Why MFT?

Academically, I was divided in pursuing my graduate degree in clinical psychology or Marriage and Family therapy (MFT). I took time to reflect on my past interactions with people from having been employed at a BMV, assisted living facilities, restaurants, daycare centers and schools for children/adolescents with developmental disabilities. The apex for me was looking at the degree of self-sacrifice, the intensity of purpose and the consistency to push beyond borders when assessing my own family history, in relation to what has been handed down to me from my mom, grandparents, great-grandparents and so on.

Most of us have heard the quote by Mahatma Gandhi saying, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” It is my experience that change begins with understanding the need for the transparency of our humanity. The transparency to be allowed to make mistakes, learn from our mistakes and teach others from our experience.

“The field of MFT is a dynamic field and because we are each an extension of a bigger story- it is that essential element of systemic thinking, which has highlighted this platform for me. The varying degrees of individual, couple and family dynamics are in fact what makes each of us special.”
